Founded in 1968, Central Ohio Martial Arts (COMA) is a martial arts club focused primarily on the teaching of Song Moo Kwan style Tae Kwon Do, a non-competitive variation of the Korean art founded by Grand Master Byung Jick Ro in March 1942.

COMA is based around a ten belt system: white, gold, orange, light blue, green, purple, brown, red, dark blue, and dark blue with 1 tip. After the last colored belt is black.

With a primary focus on self defense, we emphasize disipline, self control, and physical conditioning.

Physics of Martial Arts

Although most martial arts heavily exploit principles of physics, their applications are usually not well understood. These principles, such as force, vectors and conservation of energy underlay every aspect of every technique. Understanding the physics involved can greatly increase a practitioner's ability to apply them.

The following sections cover (i.e. scratch the surface of) some of the basics of physics used in martial arts. While an understanding of the mathematical principles is useful, it is not absolutely necessary. Don't dismiss them too quickly, however. Not only is it good to brush up on those skills you haven't used in years (or maybe you're just learning), knowing the mathematics behind the physics can tell you exactly how to improve your technique.
